If you want a back up or a cheap starter sports camera

take a look at these

£34 if you want one tomorrow - https://www.amazon.c...0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

or £25 if you can wait 2-3 weeks - https://www.amazon.c...s=go pro camera

links worked at time of posting - amazon change them really quickly

yep - they are not as good as a go pro - but they are damn close and a good price as a starter or back-up

They come with a good range of spares, waterproof box, mounts leads etc

I bought a similar knockoff, and I'm not impressed, but it's worth the money.

The video is massively overexposed with no option to adjust. The video quality isn't brilliant either. The field of view and sound quality are decent, however.

The one I have is much better quality than yours appears to be, that said I only got it on wednesday so haven't been jumping with it yet

but for £25.............

1080 is only 20fps

720 is 60 or 30 fps

it has wifi and mini hdmi

i have one of these http://www.tomtop.co...as/p_95190.html (arrived in about 5 days), and one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01932356G/  (It cost £113 delivered when i bought it)

The picture on the cheap one is surprisingly good, and between the 2 sets, i have more mounts and selfie sticks, floats and other bits than i know what to do with

I have one of these: http://www.ebay.co.u...=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Same ish profile as the Gopro session. not used on a jump yet but test footage has seemed more than good enough for YouTube etc.

Is branded qumox but updating to the latest firmware changes the splash screen to sjcam, making it exactly the same as the sjcam m10.

Loads of mounts. Not bad for £23.50.

the cheaper one doesn't have an hdmi port or wifi, so I guess you can only transfer or view stored images by removing the sd card everytime

It also has less in the way of spares and mounting adaptors

Hi

I finally got round to testing it. It was strapped to the back of my hand so its a bit shakier than I would have liked, but....

It looks pretty good to me - for the money.

This is on 1080 at a fixed 30fps.

I'll try it on 720 at 60fps and see how that looks next

heres some footage from the SJcam 5000. youll sometimes see a square in the video, this IS NOT down to the camera, but down to the software i used to trim the video (im a total noob at editing, so if anyone knows of good software thatll run on ubuntu, let me know :) )

I have been using SJ Cams for a couple of years. They are almost identical to the GoPro in size shape and feel but are about half the price of the gp. This is my next one which was realeased last week. http://sjcamhd.com/sj6-legend/ A lot of people refer to them as feux pros but honestly I think it's just as good. Now when it comes to buying them make sure you buy a genuine one. May sound odd but there are copies of Sjcams as well.

That SJ6 still interpolates its 4K vid, which is a shame (if you are bothered about 4k that is). The SJ7 star though, looks like it doesn't interpolate, and seems to be a more expensive looking machine. However, you are starting to get a bit more pricey ($199)... so maybe not in the "cheap" alternative window.

The quality and support of the GoPros is better, however I also don't think it is better to an extent that most people would notice when viewing a video on their phone, computer or tablet, which is where I imagine most of the vids we make get viewed.

Sony's are cheaper than GoPro, and the picture quality is much better

$199 dollars for the SJCam vs Gopro Hero 5 at $399 is a massive difference and even bigger in the UK. I understand that gopro is a global company and have so many resources however SJ do have very good customer service and have a UK department. Regards to quality to gopro well the last one i had was a 3+ and was the biggest pile of tripe i had and that's the point i started using SJCAM and i haven't looked back and since upgraded to a newer model. SO many alternatives now to the gopro's.

Yeah, absolutely in comparison to the GoPro it is cheaper, but compared to the £30 or so ones that were being discussed at the start, $199 is getting more pricey!

I've moved to the Sony action cams now. Can pick them up at a decent price 2nd hand these days, and I prefer the form factor.
